Response from An Taoiseach to letter by 222 Pastors and Leaders

Dear Pastor Ahern,

The Taoiseach, Mr Micheál Martin, T.D., has asked me to thank you for your recent correspondence regarding the ongoing closure of churches for public worship.

As you will be aware, the current Level 5 restrictions of the Framework for living with Covid-19 are in place until 5 April 2021. You will appreciate that at this stage it is not possible to provide guarantees about future levels of restrictions. It should be noted that all decisions by Government in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, based on public health advice, are made in the interest of all members of our society, with the wellbeing of the most vulnerable at their core.

The Taoiseach understands that you attended a virtual meeting with Senior Officials from this Department on 25 February last, to discuss the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions and related issues. He welcomes your contribution and appreciates all the ongoing pastoral work, which your members are engaged in to support the mental health and wellbeing of your congregation.

The Taoiseach has asked me to convey his best wishes to you, the members of Christian Voice Ireland and your congregations during these very difficult times.

Yours sincerely, ****
