Commenting on the highly inappropriate RTE video Christian Voice Ireland representative Pastor John Ahern said:
“As Christians we are absolutely appalled that our national broadcaster would see fit to depict the God Whom we worship in this manner. This represents a clear attack on all that our faith holds to be sacred and true, and sadly is an indication of the derision and utter contempt that decision-makers in RTE seem to hold towards the Christian faith.”
“The Virgin Birth is a central tenet of our faith, one that Christians all over the world hold to. By depicting God as a sexual predator, RTE have insulted people of faith, not only in Ireland, but all around the world.”
“They have also completely ignored the fact that the Scriptures record Mary’s willing acceptance of the call to bear Christ.” “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” Luke 1:38.
“Sadly, RTE have also used rape of an immigrant in a so-called comedy sketch. Surely in light of the epidemic levels of sexual violence we are seeing in our society, this is a scandalous abuse of power, as well as representing a complete disconnect from the very real sufferings and misery of rape victims.”
“Have RTE decided that they no longer want or need Christians to pay the Licence fee? Because there are many who on point of principle will consider it impossible in all good conscience to continue paying same for a “service” that openly mocks and denigrates their faith?”
“We are calling on the Director-General of RTE, Dee Forbes to resign, as this badly-judged piece should never have been filmed, let alone aired to the nation.”
Christian Voice Ireland represents a broad group of over 50 evangelical Churches and ministries in Ireland.
